About us
There are over 400 members in Calderdale, and we run a varied ride and events programme throughout the year, details of which are on the Calendar page of this website and in our Gazette which can be downloaded by clicking on the link above.  You are very welcome to join us – take a look at our ‘Advice for new riders’ page for some tips and info about our riding style, etiquette etc. (it can be found by clicking on the ‘About Calderdale CTC’ tab at the top of this page).

Sunday Rides
If you’re a regular rider but want to increase your fitness, get used to climbing, ride with a group or just get to the ‘next level’, then these rides are a good introduction to the club. We tend to average around 10-12 mph (with stops) and the group will aim to stay together for the whole ride.  Each ride has a mid-morning café stop; there is the option at this point to return home for around lunchtime under the guidance of an experienced rider. Most rides will carry on to the lunch stop and return by late afternoon, although with agreement we might stay out longer if the weather is kind.  Some ‘Short Rides’ (often when a longer event is also taking place) will turn around after the mid-morning stop.

Easy Rides
Following feedback from our Members’ Survey in 2018, we are offering a shorter, easier-paced ride on the 1st Sunday of each month, starting in June. Rides will take around 2 hours and we will not leave anyone behind. There will be a coffee stop. Meet at Halifax Bull Green Car Park (free parking) at 8:45am for a 9:00am start. For the latest information, visit our Facebook page or contact Reid Anderson on 07763 328 8044.

Car-Assisted Rides
These enable us to visit destinations beyond the range of our normal Sunday rides. Five car assisted rides are planned this year. We will be riding to the Coxwold Cyclists’ Church Service in May, to the East Yorkshire countryside in June, to Tatton Park in July, to Fairburn to join the Memorial rides in August, and to ride around York in September. All welcome, especially if you can offer seats in cars / space for bikes to enable those without cars to participate. These rides feature quiet, fairly flat roads and range in distance between 30 and 40 miles, aiming to return late afternoon. If you would like to participate, particularly if you can offer spaces for riders and/or their bikes, please contact the relevant ride leader.

Thursday Evening Rides
In the spring and summer we plan a series of evening rides. These rides use the longer evenings to explore roads, lanes, and sometimes tracks within an easy distance of Halifax, usually between 15 and 20 miles. While we aim to finish the rides during the hours of daylight, we do sometimes get carried away so please remember to bring some lights with you.  The rides usually finish at a pub for some post-ride refreshments and chat!

Autumn Tints Rides
Calderdale CTC Autumn Tints evolved from the original Autumn Tints Cycling Comrades – we now invite cyclists of any ability, age or gender to join our rides.  We promise a warm welcome to all, whether you are an inexperienced rider or someone who would like to try riding within the safety & camaraderie of a group. Rides are held every Wednesday & Saturday, at a steady pace, and wherever possible on quiet & often very scenic routes. We don’t avoid the hills, but we always regroup at the top and you will not be berated for getting off to walk if you need to!  Distance is usually between 25-45 miles, with a morning coffee stop and a lunch stop.  Some people will peel off after the morning stop if they want a shorter ride.

Events
Our varied programme of cycling events caters for riders of all abilities.  Events are open to all, whether Cycling UK members or not. Standard Rides and Audax events offer the opportunity to complete non-competitive touring rides over a variety of distances inside usually generous time limits. Audax events are organised under the rules of Audax United Kingdom, the long distance cyclists’ association, and are part of a national calendar, attracting riders from all over the country. Standard Rides are local events offering a little more informality but with a similar sense of achievement.  Check out the Gazette or the Calendar page on this website for more details.

Clubroom
In the winter, you don’t have to stop at home just because of the inclement weather.  If you can’t bear to cycle, and if you do, then come along to the clubroom.  We have a varied programme of entertainment for cyclists in the long, dark evenings: slide shows, talks, parties, and more. Clubroom opens at 7:30 and events start at 7:45pm on Fridays, from October through to the end of March.  Refreshments provided.  Members and non-members are all welcome.  A small admission charge of £1.50 will be made to cover expenses. A few members usually carry on the discussion in the Three Pigeons afterwards!
