Tour de Yorkshire ride Sunday 3 May 2015

On Sunday 3 May Stage 3 of the Tour of Yorkshire cycle race passes through Calderdale en route to Roundhay Park in Leeds. In advance of the arrival of the peleton in the afternoon, we have two rides featuring the route taken by the Tour riders through our area.
The longer of the two rides (33 miles from Elland to Cock Hill) starts at Elland Bridge (meet 8.30 am for an 8.45 start) and features the 2014 Tour de France climb to Blackley (“Cote de Greetland”) before picking up the Tour of Yorkshire route at Scapegoat Hill. Entering Calderdale near Barkisland we then follow the route through Ripponden, Mytholmroyd and Hebden Bridge and then up the categorised climb “Cote de Hebden Bridge” aka Cock Hill where the route leaves Calderdale for Bradford District.
The shorter ride starts at Mytholmroyd Community Centre (meet 8.30 am for an 8.45 start) and features the quiet lanes of the Sowerby hillside before descending into Ripponden.
The two rides will come together for a mid morning coffee stop at Robin’s Nest cafe Rishworth (eta 11.00am) before continuing along the route of the Tour over to Cragg Vale and Hebden Bridge.
The intention is to have a lunch stop in Oxenhope at around 1.30 pm at which point the led ride will come to an end. Those riders wanting to await the arrival of the race would then have a number of spectating options including (1) retracing to Cock Hill, or (2) the cobbles of Main Street Haworth, or (3) going on to the next categorised climb, the 25% ramp called the Cote de Goose Eye.
Timings for the race (roads will close approx 30 mins before this) are Cock Hill 14.48, Haworth 15.00 and Goose Eye 15.11.
