Potholes are really bad news for all highway users, especially cyclists. There is an item on “Hazards” at all meetings of the Calderdale CTC Committee, and potholes feature regularly in these discussions. So…the following may be of interest.
The Government have recently(June 2014) announced that they are providing money to English Councils specifically for the repair of potholes. The overall sum involved is £168m – the amount earmarked for Calderdale Council is £819k. The money must be spent by the end of March 2015 and additional money will be provided to those Councils able to demonstrate what the Government decide is best practice. The Government have said they will be monitoring progress each quarter.

I have contacted Calderdale Council asking if Calderdale CTC can be consulted on the way the moneys are allocated in Calderdale, arguing that of all users of the carriageway, cyclists are the most likely to be injured as a result of coming into contact with potholes.
