This coming Sunday 10 September we have another of the events carrying points towards the annual CTC Calderdale Awards scheme – the 50 miles in 5 hours and 30 miles in 3 hours “Standard” rides. Complete the ride and you qualify for an award and a round of applause at the Annual Dinner in March 2018.
Both rides start from the car park at Gooder Street Brighouse. Please note that this is NOT the usual Brighouse ride start but is the car park in Brighouse NEXT TO THE BUS STATION. For the 50 in 5 ride meet 8.45 for a 9.00 departure, which means you have to complete the ride by 2 pm. For the 30 in 3 meet 9.15 for a 9.30 departure, which means you have to complete the ride by 12.30 pm. The entry fee for each event is £1 – yes, one pound.
The 50 in 5 is a figure of eight out via Ravensthope to Crofton, just beyond Wintersett Country Park in Wakefield, returning via Dewsbury. The 30 in 5 is similarly a figure of eight ditto Ravensthorpe but turns after a little wiggle at Horbury. Both routes have been designed by Geoff and Helen Pearce, and pay homage to their roles as Sustrans Rangers, as the routes include significant sections of the traffic free routes maintained by Sustrans. For this reason riders are asked to ride with particular care along these sections, which are shared with walkers and occasional equestrians. Thank you.

These are popular rides that have been a staple of the CTC Ride programme for many years so we hope as many people as possible can come out. The 30 in 3 is particularly suitable for riders wanting to test their stamina over a longer route, which is particularly attractive in that it is reasonably flat and features many traffic free sections.
