Car Assisted ride to Yorkshire Dales – Sunday 3 September 2017

With apologies for the delay, here are the ride details for Sunday’s car assisted ride to the Yorkshire Dales.

Meet Brighouse Bethel Street car park at 8.15 am for 8.30 am departure to Settle. For those meeting in Brighouse recommended driving directions will be provided. For those who wish to drive directly to Settle without going to Brighouse first the assembly point is the Ashfield Car park in Settle Town Centre. Entering Settle on the B6480 go under railway, past Falcon Manor, after passing 20 mph signs look for turn left signposted Railway Station, turn left into Station Road and car park is 50 yards up on the right. If you have time to drive around Settle looking for free parking be my guest, but if not the charge for over four hours parking is £3.90 (bring change !). We are aiming to leave the car park at 10.15 am.

The ride is 45 miles in total taking in the remote and untouristy Kingsdale and a large section of the very beautiful Dentdale. I have tweaked the outward route a bit so we will now go to Ingleton (11 miles) via Clapham instead of High Bentham; there will be a coffee stop in Ingleton at the Falls Cafe. We will then continue to Dent (22 miles) via Kingsdale. As with the ride last year, lunch will be taken at the Meadowside Cafe in Dent http://www.meadowsidecafe.co.uk

After lunch we will traverse Dentdale alongside the river to Cowgill and Dent Head viaduct (see photo), climbing out of the valley to Newby Head before enjoying a fine descent to Ribblehead. From Ribblehead we will return to Settle (45 miles) along the B6479 via Selside and Horton.

Hope this helps. If you are intending to come along and have not already contacted me can you let me know – text or phone 0776 332 8804. Huddersfield CTC members intending to come along should contact Peter Charnley or Steven Hall.

Thanks and hoping for another good day out in some fabulous countryside. There are a few longish climbs but the views from the top will make all the effort worthwhile.
