As the arrangements for this years Car Assisted ride from Fairburn are different from those that previously applied, I thought I ought to send them out a bit earlier than usual.
The ride will start from Fairburn as usual, but not from the Village Hall but from outside Fairburn Community Primary School on North Road Fairburn (WF11 9LA); on street parking is available here.
The route for the ride is here https://ridewithgps.com/trips/26133448
The ride is 88km / 55 miles in total; there will be a coffee stop at Bankend Tearooms at Carlton (30 km / 19 miles) with lunch at Selby (50 km / 31 miles). There is a choice of places for lunch – the choice is yours – The Hub Cafe in Market Cross, Wetherspoons or Morrisons, all of which are in the town centre. Bankend Tearooms are en route and are making a particular effort to attract passing cyclists.
The route is almost entirely flat and avoids main roads so far as possible. For those familiar with the 2017 Fairburn Ride, it replicates the first 50 km and the last 25 km of that ride. It passes through some delightful countryside, and visits a large number of ancient settlements, many of which have very attractive churches. Places visited include Birkin, Heck, Gateforth, Ulleskelf, Church Fenton and Saxton; those not wishing to stay out all day can go directly back to Fairburn after (or even before) the lunch stop.
Meet Bethel Street Car Park Brighouse (opp Wetherspoons) at 8.45 for a 9.00 departure for Fairburn. It is only a relatively short journey to Fairburn along the M62 so we should be able to get away from Fairburn before 10.00.
If you are interested in doing the ride could I trouble you to let me know as soon as possible please – a short text on 0776 332 8804 will be fine. It would be really helpful to hear from anyone who can provide transport (seat(s) / bike(s) / both) for those without a car.
