On Sunday 12 June we have a car assisted ride to the Yorkshire Dales. Car assisted rides, where we take the bikes in cars and/or in a van enable us to explore areas beyond our more familiar West Yorkshire haunts. This time we are visiting the Yorkshire Dales in the company of friends from Huddersfield and District CTC.
Meeting point is Bethel Street Car Park in Brighouse (opp Wetherspoons – HD6 1JR) at 8.15 for start at 8.30. We will then travel to Settle, park up, have a coffee and then start the ride. Route includes parts of the Yorkshire Dales Cycleway and the Way of the Roses route; outwards to Dent via Ingleton and the very quiet and lovely Kingsdale; returning via the even quieter and arguably just as lovely Barbondale, crossing over the river and then taking a combination of Yorkshire Dales Cycleway / Way of the Roses back to Settle via High Bentham. My Goldeneye Yorkshire Dales cycle map says this is 50 miles. Have not yet decided on a lunch stop – will be either Dent (quieter but fewer options) or Kirby Lonsdale (more options but busier). I will check this beforehand.
As it is the Dales there will obviously be climbs, but a surprisingly large proportion of the route is easy riding. The one major climb, and a bit of a brute, is out of Dentdale into Barbondale. It is an all day ride and I would expect a return around 6pm.
If you would like to come along can you please let me know as soon as possible please – call or text 0776 332 8804. it does not matter if you do not have access to a car, all we ask is you present yourself on time at the start. But please let me know as soon as possible if you are thinking of coming along so I can sort out transport for the bikes. Thanks.
Hoping for some decent weather on what should be a good day out.
