West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA), representing Calderdale and the other four West Yorkshire Districts, has the responsibility for determining the shape of transport provision in our area. WYCA is currently consulting on its strategy for the next 20 years. This is enormously important to us cyclists because it will be the template for transport infrastructure development in our area for the foreseeable future. Historically cycling has not featured to any significant degree in transport expenditure, yet transport policies always highlight the need to increase levels of cycling participation; but historically minus the commitment and funding to support the rhetoric.
The consultation documentation can be found here http://www.yourtravelyoursay.co.uk . The consultation period began in early August and lasts until 21 October 2016. WYCA are holding a number of drop in sessions at a number of locations throughout Calderdale during this period; these are listed here :-160801calderdaleconsultation
If you have the time, have a look at the WYCA documents – although the Strategy document is very long, there is a summary version of 22 pages (yes, I know !). And, if you can, try and get along to one of the drop in sessions – there will be one taking place near you, although regrettably most take place during during the day so it is difficult for people who have to work. But there is one at Halifax Market on Saturday 24 September between 10.00 am and 1.00 pm
In the next few days I will put another post on here with my own comments on the Strategy and suggesting how the cycling community might respond.
