Calderdale Cycle Forum – Wednesday 29 June 2016

The next meeting of the Calderdale Cycle Forum will take place at Happy Days, Wharf Street, Sowerby Bridge at 6 pm on Wednesday 29 June.

The Cycle Forum is the principal forum at which the local cycling community can find out what is being done by Calderdale Council to improve conditions for cyclists in our area. The Forum is chaired by the Council’s Cycling Champion, Councillor Dot Foster.

Whilst the meeting is open to all with an interest to attend, Cycling UK / Calderdale CTC has a particular interest in subjects under discussion. Two particular issues we have been pursuing have been the development of a Cycling Strategy for Calderdale and Cycleproofing of major transport and development projects. Wednesday’s meeting will provide an opportunity for the Council to give an update on these matters.

Cycleproofing is particularly important in that Calderdale has been allocated many millions of pounds under the West Yorkshire Plus Transport Programme. Details of these projects can be found by following this link It would be our expectation that these schemes would include specific provision for the encouragement of cycling, particularly by those families who do not currently cycle or are reluctant to do so because of fear of traffic.

It is also expected that a report will be given on progress in relation to the City Connect 2 scheme, the million pound project to create a largely traffic free walking and cycling route between Cooper Bridge and Todmorden – for details see this link

So if you want to know more about what Calderdale Council is doing for cycling in Calderdale, the Calderdale Cycle Forum is the place to find out.
